Hershey, PA (September 2, 2010). Protect The Hersheys' Children, Inc. (PHC) has requested IRS, U.S. Senate, and PA Department of Banking investigation of the Hershey Trust, the world's largest residential childcare charity. PHC is a watchdog group that monitors the $7.5 billion charity. PHC has long sought reform of the charity's board, citing its poor childcare record and wasteful spending.

In a letter dated September 1, 2010, PHC apprised the IRS, the Senate Finance Committee, and PA Secretary of Banking Steve Kaplan of potential compensation abuses committed by the charity's board. PHC's letter relies on public statements made by the charity's board to show practices that the group asserts warrant scrutiny.

While the Hershey Trust ordinarily is under the supervision of Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, board compensation questions trigger shared oversight on the part of the IRS, state bank regulators, and Senators Max Baucus and Charles E. Grassley of the Senate Finance Committee. If these officials were to look into the matter, it would bring scrutiny to the Hershey Trust beyond that of PA's principal charitable oversight official, Tom Corbett.

PHC has criticized Corbett's refusal to act against the charity's board, arguing he indulges it due to political ties with its leadership. The Hershey Trust chairman is former two-term Keystone State Attorney General LeRoy Zimmerman. Corbett and Zimmerman are both Republicans and the charity is notable for its large number of prominent Republican appointments. PHC is nonpartisan.

According to PHC, "While compensation excesses are far from the only problems burdening the Hershey Trust, they may open the door to credible examination of this charity's activities by uncompromised parties. It's obvious that Tom Corbett won't take action. We hope the IRS, the Senate Finance Committee, and the state Department of Banking will. Thousands of children's lives are at issue along with vast childcare resources. It's high time for meaningful action here."

Those Islamists and their apologists who argue for "religious
toleration" are arrogantly dishonest. They ignore the fact that more
than 100 mosques already exist in New York City. Meanwhile, there are
no churches or synagogues in all of Saudi Arabia. In fact no Christian
or Jew can even enter Mecca. And they lecture us about tolerance.

If the people behind the Cordoba House were serious about religious
toleration, they would be imploring the Saudis, as fellow Muslims, to
immediately open up Mecca to all and immediately announce their
intention to allow non-Muslim houses of worship in the Kingdom. They
should be asked by the news media if they would be willing to lead
such a campaign.

We have not been able to rebuild the World Trade Center in nine years.
Now we are being told a 13 story, $100 million megamosque will be
built within a year overlooking the site of the most devastating
surprise attack in American history.

Finally where is the money coming from? The people behind the Cordoba
House refuse to reveal all their funding sources. America is experiencing an Islamist cultural-political offensive
designed to undermine and destroy our civilization. Sadly, too many of
our elites are the willing apologists for those who would destroy them if they could.
No mosque. No self deception. No surrender.

Barrett was an ambassador to Finland during the George W. Bush administration and ran for governor of Arizona in 1994. Sheehan was General Counsel to former Governor Tom Ridge.

They join other Republican luminaries on entity boards, including Zimmerman himself; former gubernatorial candidate Lynn Swann, who sits on the board of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts; and former governor Tom Ridge, who sits on the board of The Hershey Company.

The compensation of entity board members varies. According to IRS records, “LEROY S ZIMMERMAN” (presumably LeRoy S. Zimmerman) received $283,500 in regular compensation and $152,867 in pension plan contributions from the Milton Hershey School during the period from Aug. 1, 2007, to July 31, 2008.

Other members of the school’s board received lower amounts. For example, during the same period, Raymond Gover, former president of the former Harrisburg Patriot- News, received $110,000 in regular compensation and no pension plan contributions.

At the start of this summer, kids who don't play ice hockey anymore, wanted me to help them start up an inline hockey team for the two summer seasons...so, I did.

We had 1 varsity ice hockey player for both seasons, 3 JV ice hockey players, 4 that played ice hockey but not for years, 1 that never played ice hockey and our goalie never did either. Most of these kids often played street hockey...outside someone's home.

None ever played inline hockey which is different than ice hockey. For example, no "icing"...no offsides and no checking. So the latter means players have to stick handle a tad bit better. Also, inline hockey has "Zero Tolerance"...which I'm personally against as that means all have to be perfect. Other than Jesus Christ I don't know of any human being who ever was. For example, it's common for ice hockey players to get into a fight whereas inline not only tosses a kid out for the game...not only for the season...but FOREVER now. Fortunately though, that only applies to the school season league as my ice players did get into 3 fights and were tossed out and suspended for one game...which is more how it should be.

In the first season, we went undefeated...8-0 then won the Championship by defeating all in the playoffs.

In the second season, the Arena's inline manager knows everyone and all know him so...he got some of the best Western PA inline players on several teams, some of which are the best in the state. And yet, my team "mercied" all of them. "Mercied" means having scored 8 or more goals than the other team by the end of the 2nd period. When done, the game can be stopped though we generally continue to play though no matter if the other team recovers they've still already lost.

In the second season, our team went 7-1...won the Championship again in the playoffs and mercied the team in the finals. Yes, we lost 1 game. My family went to Myrtle Beach for a week which was during one game. I told the boys to NOT make me look like a good coach by losing that game. They did...12 to 5 and against the team they mercied in the Championship finals. I had a good chuckle over that one.

Still, while keeping these players from getting bent out of shape was unusually difficult, they were great...very coachable and, unlike most their age...not spoiled.

It was my pleasure in coaching them. Now here's a link that can show you the team following the Championship game. No, I wasn't happy that they picked me up but they did because they were so pumped up. P. None

I wish they could play in the PIRHL school season league but, sad to say, we couldn't get 8 skaters which is required...only 6 since 3 that play ice also play for other teams besides Mars. They wanted to play because it was their first inline experience which they loved but couldn't due to commitments already made.
